This is the stuff of horror graphic novels.
You would there is little to shock crime investigators anymore, that they’re used to the blood and gore of terrible killings, but the Los Angeles murder of a mother of one stunned and horrified even the most experienced crime officers.
Investigators noted that the brutal murder of model Iana Kasian, 30, in May last year was something they had not seen “outside of wartime.”
The Independent reported that Kasian was brutally murdered through exsanguination — being drained of her blood — according the medical documents, and blunt force trauma to the head.
She is also believed to have been tortured for hours in a knife attack in a Los Angeles apartment perpetuated by Blake Liebel, 35, a comic book writer who she also has a child with.
Leibel, an heir to a plastics and property fortune, could be given the death sentence if found guilty, due to the severity of the crime, wrote The Independent.
“[Her] entire scalp was traumatically absent and was not found, was not present with the body. Her skull had been stripped down to the surface of the bone … there was no scalp present except for little bits in the back of the neck,” said ames Ribe, of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office in the autopsy report.
Dr Ribe also said there were bruises and abrasions on Ms Kasian’s face, including a human bite mark.
The case gets even grimmer as the autopsy revealed Kasian “lived for at least eight hours approximately after receiving the scalp injury and the bruise to the collarbone.”
“I have never seen this before. And I doubt hardly any forensic pathologists in this country or abroad have even seen this, outside of, perhaps, wartime … it’s extremely rare,” Dr. Ribe was quoted in the report.
Leibel is charged with charged with murder, mayhem, aggravated mayhem and torture, but his lawyers are reportedly going to argue that is mentally unfit for trial.
