In an interview with Adam Sandler for Variety’s “Actors on Actors series, Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence said she “becomes incredibly rude” when she enters a public space.
“Once I enter a public place, I become incredibly rude,” she admits. She even goes as far to say she is “a huge asshole,” to fans who might come up to her for photos or autographs.
“It’s my only way of defending myself,” she adds.
She even tells fans when they spot her out and about that “it’s her day off,” so pictures with her might not be on the offering.
Guess when you’re in the public eye and everybody with a smart phone is probably out to try and get viral at your expense, then we can’t blame her for her stance.
But while we can’t expect celebrities to pose for every person who meets them across the street, it’s a little frustrating since Jennifer has been known to come up to celebrities at random and fangirl away herself.
Of course some netizens had their feathers ruffled:
Dear Jennifer Lawrence, if you didn’t want fans to bother you in public, you shouldn’t have sold your privacy away to act in the Hunger Games and X-Men. You brought the fame upon yourself and you shouldn’t be rude towards your fans in public because of it. pic.twitter.com/wior8he0zR

Honestly fuck Jennifer Lawerence. She flew to close, to soon. Being an asshole to fan & admitting it makes you worse. In a few yrs you’ll be forgotten and then no worries. https://t.co/8cYrvr3Fjo

Sandler shared his own tactics in dealing with fans when they’re out in public, but mostly joked around. “My life’s near the end,” he says. “I want to meet as many people as I can.”
But apparently he goes for a more subtle technique when he wants out of an encounter, asking selfie-takers “You don’t want that, man. What are you going to do with that?”
