Aaah, the Met Gala 2017, a time to celebrate art, its icons, and well, the fashionable (and often kooky!) outfits that the stars lucky enough to get invited sport.
The Met Gala runs a theme every year and it’s always interesting how the stars and their glam teams attempt to translate the theme into something that makes a statement in a good way, as there are some misses, lol.
One star that so far has managed to keep cameras interested in training its lenses on her has been Rihanna: first gracing the event in 2007, then piquing interest with her gender-bending suit attire in 2009, then the goth mermaid spectacle in 2011, and continuous sleek Goddess looks from 2012 and 2014, then the advent of her show-stopping, floor covering, meme-generating yellow ensemble in 2015’s “China: Through the Looking Glass” exhibition, she has managed to keep people on their toes and other stars trying to keep up, if they’re even trying.
Nylon crowned her the Queen of the Met Gala for being “neither bland nor a strayer of themes” so it’s no surprise all the fashion fiends are excited at the news that the Bitch Better Have My Money singer will play co-host, along with the illustrious Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney, at the May 7 staging of the gala.
The theme of the 2018 event is religion—more specifically, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”—so it’s bound “to be pretty controversial.”
Controversial yes, but also always exciting! Hey, it’s the red carpet after all.
“Hopefully, having the Queen at the helm will force everyone else to step up their game,” writes Nylon.
