Queen Elizabeth III looks like she has a soft spot for newlyweds, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The public has long speculated about the relationship between Queen Elizabeth III (a.ka. Prince Harry’s grandma) to his bride, the new Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, largely due to lack of outwardly affection from Her Royal Highness.
But it turns out the Queen just probably isn’t as vocal about it in public, and would much rather have her affection for Prince Harry’s bride shown through subtlety.
For one, when the couple were newly engaged, she allowed Markle to spend Christmas with the royal family, she allowed Markle’s pet beagle Guy (the Queen is a softie for dogs, afterall) to ride with her entourage to the royal wedding, and now, quite adorably, she also keeps a framed photo of the newly married couple on a table in her famed sitting room at Buckingham Palace, where she regularly receives important guests from all over the world.
On May 30, the Queen was hosting Australian High Commissioner to the UK, his Honorable George Brandis, when the photo was spotted in the background of one of her sitting room tables.
It looks to be a personal photograph, as the picture has yet to be seen in public before.
Whew! Hopefully that settles the air once and for all about her royal highness’ favor to her grandson’s bride.
The Duchess of Sussex has also spoken fondly about her grandmother-in-law, and in her first BBC interview with Prince Harry after getting engaged, she’s said it was ‘incredible’ to get to know the Queen through the lens of someone very close to her.
“It’s incredible, I think, you know, a) to be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honor and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother,” she said. “All of those layers have been so important for me, so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding and, of course, incredible respect for being able to have that time with her. And we’ve had a really-she’s an incredible woman,” Markle has said.
