Like many of us glued to our social media, you may have already found out that Prince Harry and Suits actress Meghan Markle are set to tie the knot next year!
But the beautiful and compassionate Meghan may already be breaking stringent royal traditions after InStyle reported Queen Elizabeth II made an exception for her after Prince Harry asked to have her at their Sandringham House holiday gathering.
“Fiancées are not typically invited to this intimate holiday gathering—even Kate Middleton didn’t attend in 2010 when she was newly engaged to Prince William. However, sources say Prince Harry asked the Queen to make an exception for Markle, and she did! This breaking of tradition is a pretty big deal, and it shows the whole royal family is already embracing Markle,” InStyle reports.
Meghan is all praises for the Queen in their BBC interview after coming out with the engagement news.
“To be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honor and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother. All of those layers have been so important for me so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her . . . She’s an incredible woman,” she has said.
So what can Markle expect during the royal holiday festivities?
Everyone will gather at Sandringham House, the Queen’s private estate in Norfolk, for a black-tie dinner, a full English breakfast, and a pheasant shoot. You know, the usual. And don’t forget the presents!
Prince Harry has been over the moon too, and in the same interview talked about the “exciting” time he introduced Meghan to the family.
“It was exciting! I’d been seeing her for a period of time when I literally didn’t tell anybody at all, and then William was longing to meet her, and so was Catherine. They’re our neighbors, so we’ve managed to get that in quite a few times now. Catherine’s been absolutely amazing, as has William as well, you know, a fantastic support.”
And on introducing her to his father, Prince Charles: “My father, we’ve had a handful of teas and meetings and all sorts of gatherings over at his place as well. The family together have been absolutely solid support.”
Even the Queen’s famous corgis have been nothing short of welcoming!
“The Corgis took to you straight away,” Harry said, speaking to Meghan in the interview. “Spent the last 33 years being barked at, this one walks in, absolutely nothing!”
“Just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet,” Meghan added.
Cue the collective awwwwws.
