With the turn of the season and temperatures dropping, going makeup free is probably the most sensible thing you could do right now because 1.) It’s cold outside 2.) Your skin is too dry for makeup to stay on for too long.
Needless to say, winter brings out the dullest, driest state of your skin. So there’s the dilemma of looking pale when you want to look blooming for all the parties and dinner invites.
In an effort to bring a solution, a skin expert revealed makeup free tricks to have rosy cheeks this winter season.
According to aesthetician Renee Rouleau, you don’t have to spend half an hour to look extra fresh and glowing – all you need is three minutes that doesn’t involve layers and layers of makeup or complicated contouring techniques. Instead, she has a weird advice for those who want rosy cheeks all day long.
“If your skin doesn’t already have a natural pinkness, a long-term strategy is to hang your head upside down for three minutes per day,” Rouleau told Allure. “You can do this up against a wall—as I do at CrossFit or during a downward dog in yoga—or by simply hanging your head over the side of your bed.”
We know – it’s a crazy advice! It may even sound nonsensible but according to Rouleau, it works.
“You should notice that after three minutes, a slight redness will appear on the skin, and in the long run, it can make a big difference in getting and keeping an inner glow, to appear lit from within,” she said.
And if you’re worried about “blood rushing to your brain” or harming your capillaries, dermatologist Amy Wechsler said “The redness subsides in a few seconds, but the glow stays for a while.”
Meanwhile, a study by St. Andrews University in Scotland said that people with a rosy complexion denotes good health and fitness. According to the study, it is a sign that oxygen in the blood is circulating well.
“People who are physically fit or have higher levels of sex hormones have more of these blood vessels and flush easier than people who are unhealthy, unfit, elderly or smokers,” said psychologist and lead author, Ian Stephen.
“Since your attractiveness relies on how healthy you look, you might be able to make yourself more attractive by being kind to your heart and lungs in doing more exercise or quitting smoking,” he added.
Hmmm. More reasons to hold those inverted yoga poses in the gym, right?
