The shoe everyone (well, maybe those who value comfort over looks, or those with a certain aesthetic) loves to hate totally just had a high-fashion rebirth.
Naysayers can suck it that the soft, ridiculously ‘I-get-really- sweaty-with-it-in-during –the-summer’ shoe in platform version, with cutesy plugs and clip-ons, was spotted off the Balenciaga runway in Paris during the illustrious Fashion Week.
Fashion is all about creating memorable “moments,” and while Dolce & Gabbana served up food-inspired fashions and Jeremy Scott took the nostalgic route with My Little Pony-inspired pieces, Balenciaga has one-upped them all with fashion platform Crocs, according to the ladies over at Cosmopolitan.
While Balenciaga also showed more “traditional” femme fashion footwear in the form of printed boots and textured heels, the real stars of the show were the Crocs collaboration, aplty (?) named Foam.
“Fashion has a history of occasionally embracing extremely comfortable footwear (remember the runway showings of Birkenstocks, anyone?), and as anyone who’s ever worn Crocs knows, those things are comfy as hell. Even a ten-centimeter-tall platform can’t really change that,” Cosmo writes.
And if you think it’s their first time partnering with high-fashion labels, the unassuming Crocs one-upped you on that:
British luxury fashion designer Christopher Kane has already collaborated with them for three seasons.
So how did this collaboration come about? In an interview with Footwear News, Crocs SVP Michelle Poole shared that they were approached by the brand, and that “[w]orking with Balenciaga has been so much fun for our team, and once again demonstrates the relevance of our iconic clog in today’s fashion and design world, as well as allowing us to tap into the excitement and energy that comes from unexpected partnerships.”
But Foam will be available to us normal people by next spring, either at Balenciaga outlets or on their website.
