Carrie Fisher is dead and 2016 couldn’t be any worse.
Just a few days before 2016 ends, it has gifted us with another punch in the gut this week. A few days back, 80’s pop icon and sex symbol, George Michael passed away after a reported heart attack. Today, reports confirm that Star Wars actress, Carrie Fisher died.
This after Fisher suffered a heart attack on board a plane from London to Los Angeles Friday, Dec. 23 – the attack happened 15 minutes before the plane was supposed to land.
Paramedics were on standby at the airport and provided life support treatment for the actress before rushing her to the UCLA Medical Center.
According to Fisher’s brother, Todd, the actress has been in the ICU since then until today, when her body had completely given up.
“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” said Simon Halls, family spokesman. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”
Carrie Fisher was best known for her role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy. The daughter of renowned Hollywood entertainers, Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, she basically grew up in the limelight and the whirlwind world of film, television and theater.
In 1973, Fisher enrolled in the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. She studied acting for more than an year until she made her film debut in Shampoo, just two years later.
In 1977, she took on her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars at the age of 19. She would later become a pop culture icon, thanks to the beloved sci-fi film.
