Brad Pitt surprised everyone when made an appearance at the Golden Globes 2017, presenting the film, Moonlight, which his production company, Plan B Entertainment, had helped produce.

Ever since his estranged ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, filed for divorce in September, both Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have stayed out of the spotlight and steered clear from big public events such as red carpet premieres and awards show.

Perhaps it is why people who were present at the Golden Globes seemed very surprised and excited to see him on stage, including fellow A-listers, Vince Vaughn and Matt Damon.

On stage last Sunday night, the actor introduced Moonlight, which he described as a film “born of the courage of a group of actors willing to strip to their souls and express their humanism inside mistake and misstep and misdeed.”

Moonlight was nominated for Best Motion Picture-Drama and boasts of top-class actors such as Naomie Harris, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Mahershala Ali, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Director Barry Jenkins was also nominated and the film ended up winning Best Motion Picture – Drama. Moonlight had 6 Golden Globes nominations in total.

But Pitt’s brief return in the spotlight was quickly replaced by a glum news for Brangelina fans. A day after the Golden Globes Awards ceremony, Pitt and Jolie released a joint statement about their divorce, saying that both parties have “agreed to preserve the privacy rights of their children” by keeping court documents confidential.

The statement also read that Pitt and Jolie have agreed to make legal decisions with a private judge as facilitator.

“The parents are committed to act as a united front to effectuate recovery and reunification,” read the statement, released on Monday night, Jan. 9.

The statement comes a few months after Jolie filed for sole custody over their six children – Twins Vivienne and Knox, 8; Shiloh, 10; Zahara, 11; Pax, 13 and Maddox 15.

Pitt was also cleared of any previous charges alleging that he abused their son, Maddox, while on a flight to Los Angeles.
